The Malaysian National Committee on Large Dams (MYCOLD) is a non-governmental Organization and the ICOLD representative for Malaysia which provides a forum for the exchange of knowledge and experience in dam engineering. The Organization leads the profession in ensuring that dams are built safely, efficiently, economically, and without detrimental effects on the environment. Its original aim was to encourage advances in the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of large dams and their associated civil works, by collecting and disseminating relevant information and by studying related technical questions.
Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) is a private university wholly owned by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). The University which is one of the Government Linked Universities (GLUs) in Malaysia operates two campuses; one main campus in Putrajaya and the other is in Bandar Muadzam Shah, Pahang. UNITEN is a serious player in the academic world that is manifested through its top academic excellence achievements. UNITEN has obtained a “Tier 5: Excellent” rating in the Rating System for Malaysian Higher Education (SETARA) and has been the top choice for Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology courses. The establishment of JPS as early as the 20th century, which is in 1913, when it was initially established as a branch within the JKR named the Tali Water Branch and its function was to deal with hydrological research. In the year 1920, this branch was reorganized and named as the Hydraulic Branch where the scope of duties was wider than before because it involved surveying and research in river preservation efforts. It was first established in 1932 under the name Jabatan Parit dan Taliair. The main task is to develop new agricultural land and it is by taking responsibility for irrigation and drainage. On March 15, 1989, this department officially renamed the Department of Irrigation and Drainage to reflect the increasingly extensive field and responsibilities. Seventy years after its establishment, JPS can look back on its successful moments implementing various programs with pride. The experience and knowledge he gained along with his dynamism has now put this department at the forefront of water resource management and land use.
